Chapter 10: Godric's Hollow
INT. ROOM OF REQUIREMENT, HOGWARTS - NIGHT
The room is filled with students. NEVILLE's face is swollen and scarred. He is speaking to GINNY.
NEVILLE We can't hide in here forever! I'm telling you, we need to stand up against Snape and the Carrows —
GINNY And look where that's gotten you! You've seen — hell, you've felt what they're capable of. After all the things we've done, their next punishment just might kill us!
The door opens and SEAMUS hurries in with a group of students, and a sack in his hand.
SEAMUS I was able to steal some food from the kitchen, but it won't be enough for all of us. And I ran into these kids. They're in trouble with the Carrows, that's why I brought them here.
NEVILLE (to GINNY) Look around you! We're starving, and there's barely any space to breathe. The room isn't big enough —
There is a grinding sound, and the walls of the room start to recede, until the room has doubled in size.
NEVILLE (cont'd) (to the room) Are you sure you can't do anything about food?
To his astonishment, a door materializes in the wall in front of him, and swings open.
FADE TO:
EXT. FOREST - EVENING
The treetops gleam white in the growing darkness. The camera pans down, and we see the tent, pitched on the snowy ground.
INT. TENT - EVENING
HERMIONE is reading The Tales of Beedle the Bard.
HARRY Hermione, I've been thinking. I want to go to Godric's Hollow.
HERMIONE looks up.
HERMIONE Yes, I've been wondering that too. The more I think about it, the more likely it seems it's there.
HARRY What's there?
HERMIONE Well, the sword, Harry! Dumbledore must have known you'd want to go back there to visit your parents' grave, and after all, Godric's Hollow is Godric Gryffindor's birthplace —
HARRY What?
HERMIONE Honestly, did you ever pay attention in History class? Godric's Hollow, Godric Gryffindor, Gryffindor's sword, Dumbledore must have expected us to make the connection!
FADE TO:
EXT. GRAVEYARD, GODRIC'S HOLLOW - NIGHT
Close-up on a sign saying "Godric's Hollow". The camera pans to reveal HARRY and HERMIONE walking through the graveyard, examining the names on the headstones with lighted wands. HERMIONE stops in front of a crumbling, mossy stone, frowning at a symbol engraved on it that looks like a triangular eye, its pupil crossed with a vertical line.
HERMIONE Harry, look at this.
HARRY What?
HERMIONE I've seen this sign before.
She reads the name on the stone:
HERMIONE (cont'd) Ignotus Peverell.
HARRY I'm going to keep looking for my parents, all right?
They continue their search. A few moments later...
HARRY (cont'd) I found them!
Close-up on a headstone made of white marble, with two names engraved upon it: "James Potter, born 27 March 1960, died 31 October 1981" and "Lily Potter, born 30 January 1960, died 31 October 1981". Switching back to a wide shot, we see HERMIONE coming to HARRY's side. Suddenly, HARRY grunts in pain and brings a hand to his scar.
NAGINI's P.O.V. — NAGINI the snake is slithering through the graveyard toward HARRY and HERMIONE.
HARRY (cont'd) Hermione, down!
HARRY pushes HERMIONE out of the way, as NAGINI leaps into view and toward HARRY. As HARRY raises his wand, the snake bites his forearm with such force as to send the wand spinning backward into a tree trunk. A powerful blow from the tail to his midriff knocks him backward, near the same tree. NAGINI slides over him and begins to coil itself around his torso.
NAGINI (hissing) Yes... hold you... hold you till he comes...
HERMIONE reaches them and points her wand at the snake.
HERMIONE Incendio!
NAGINI's tail bursts into flame, and the snake thrashes off HARRY and into the snow, which extinguishes the fire. HARRY crawls toward the tree and picks up his wand. To his dismay, the impact has nearly severed the wand in two; one fragile strand of phoenix feather keeps both pieces hanging together.
HARRY No!
The snake launches itself at HARRY once more.
HERMIONE Harry, get out of the way!
HARRY leaps out of the way, and the snake hits the tree, at which HERMIONE's wand is pointed.
HERMIONE (cont'd) Confringo!
The tree is blown to smithereens, and the snake is buried under the falling fragments.
HERMIONE (cont'd) Come, quick!
As HARRY runs towards her, their hands find each other's, and they Disapparate.
EXT. FOREST - NIGHT
HARRY and HERMIONE Apparate into the middle of the forest. HARRY holds out his broken wand to HERMIONE.
HARRY Mend it. Please.
HERMIONE I don't think I can —
HARRY Please try!
HERMIONE points her wand at his.
HERMIONE Reparo!
The dangling half of the wand reseals itself. HARRY holds it up.
HARRY Lumos!
The wand sparkles feebly, then splits into two again.
HARRY (cont'd) Well, then, I'll just borrow yours while I keep watch.
