Chapter 4: The Will of Albus Dumbledore

                 INT. BEDROOM, THE BURROW - MORNING

                 OLLIVANDER's scream has become HARRY's. HARRY opens his
                 eyes; he is in bed. RON and HERMIONE appear beside him.

                                         RON
                           Harry, what's wrong?

                                         HARRY
                           Just a dream.

                                         HERMIONE
                           It was your scar, wasn't it?
                           Harry, you mustn't let that
                           connection open up again!

                 There is a knock on the door. ARTHUR opens the door a
                 crack.

                                         ARTHUR
                           May I have a word with the three
                           of you?

                                         RON
                           Sure, Dad, come on in.

                 ARTHUR enters, holding a drawstring pouch.

                                         ARTHUR
                           Ron tells me the three of you are
                           dropping out of Hogwarts.

                                         HARRY
                           Yeah, Dumbledore left us a
                           mission.

                                         ARTHUR
                           Can you confide in me what the
                           mission is?

                                         HARRY
                           I'm sorry, Mr. Weasley. If
                           Dumbledore didn't tell you, I
                           don't think I can.

                                         ARTHUR
                           I thought you'd say that. Speaking
                           of Dumbledore, it seems that he
                           wanted to leave you a few things.
                           After he died, the Ministry
                           confiscated the contents of his
                           will, and I had to twist a few
                           arms to get them for you.

                 Opening the pouch, he takes out what looks like a silver
                 cigarette lighter and gives it to RON.

                                         ARTHUR (cont'd)
                           Ron, he gave you his Deluminator.

                 RON clicks it, and the light from the room is sucked into
                 the Deluminator. He clicks it again, and the light is
                 restored.

                                         RON
                           Wicked cool.

                                         ARTHUR
                           For Hermione, The Tales of Beedle
                           the Bard.

                 He hands her a small, ancient-looking book.

                                         RON
                           Why would Dumbledore want to give
                           you a book of fairy tales?

                 HERMIONE thumbs through the book.

                                         HERMIONE
                           I don't know.

                                         ARTHUR
                           Harry, I think you might recognize
                           this.

                 He holds up a golden Snitch.

                                         HARRY
                           A Snitch!

                                         MR. WEASLEY
                           The one you caught in your first
                           Quidditch match at Hogwarts, in
                           fact.

                                         HERMIONE
                           Dumbledore must have hidden
                           something inside!

                 The three others in the room look at her blankly.

                                         HERMIONE (cont'd)
                           A Snitch can identify the first
                           person to lay hands upon it, in
                           case of a disputed capture. This
                           Snitch will remember your touch,
                           Harry. Dumbledore must have
                           enchanted this Snitch so that it
                           will open only for you.

                                         ARTHUR
                           Go on, take it and see what
                           happens.

                 HARRY reaches out... and takes it. Nothing happens.
                 HERMIONE looks disappointed.

                                         HERMIONE
                           I was so sure!

                                         RON
                           The Snitch you caught in your
                           first match? That was the one you
                           nearly swallowed!

                 Looking bemused, HARRY presses his mouth to the Snitch.
                 It does not open. He lowers the golden sphere.
                 Handwritten words begin to engrave themselves upon the
                 smooth golden surface.

                                         HARRY
                                (reading the words)
                           I open at the close.

                 The words vanish.

                                         ARTHUR
                           Dumbledore left you a second
                           bequest, Harry — the sword of
                           Godric Gryffindor. Unfortunately,
                           the Ministry has decided that the
                           sword was not Dumbledore's to give
                           away, and it remains in the
                           headmaster's office at Hogwarts.

                                         HARRY
                           The sword was in his office during
                           all out talks last year! If he
                           wanted me to have it, why didn't
                           he just give it to me then?

                                         HERMIONE
                           Because it must be taken under
                           conditions of need and valor!
                           According to legend, the sword of
                           Godric Gryffindor may present
                           itself to any worthy Gryffindor
                           who has need of it.

                                         RON
                           Like when you were fighting the
                           basilisk in the Chamber of
                           Secrets.

                                         HERMIONE
                           Exactly. I think Dumbledore knew
                           that, when the time is right, the
                           sword will come to you.
