FADE IN:
Through a thick cloud of smoke, we fly past the WARNER
BROS. LOGO and the main title:
"HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS"
EXT. A VILLAGE - NIGHT
There are screams and flames all around. A sinister
figure in dark robes approaches from the distance. At
first he might be mistaken for Voldemort, but as he draws
closer, it is apparent that his face is different, though
no less hideous. It is GELLERT GRINDELWALD, surveying the
mayhem around him with perverse pleasure.
He stops in front of a badly wounded man lying in the
middle of the road. The man makes a feeble attempt at
raising his wand, but collapses quickly under the effort.
GRINDELWALD
Filthy little Mudblood!
He spits on the man.
GRINDELWALD (cont'd)
Once I have taken control of the
Wizarding world, Wizards and
Muggles alike will be slaves under
my rule.
He points his wand at the man.
GRINDELWALD (cont'd)
But Muggle-borns like you — you're
freaks of nature. You don't have a
place in this world.
DUMBLEDORE (O.S.)
Gellert Grindelwald!
GRINDELWALD turns around to see a young ALBUS DUMBLEDORE,
wand in hand.
CAPTION: "50 years ago".
GRINDELWALD
Albus Dumbledore, my old friend.
Come to join in the fun, have you?
DUMBLEDORE
You need to stop this, Gellert.
Try for some remorse.
GRINDELWALD
You dare!
They are stabbed by a sudden ray of light as the night
turns to dawn. In that instant, GRINDELWALD sends out a
curse that DUMBLEDORE deflects, and an epic duel ensues.
The two powerful wizards are evenly matched, and for a
while it seems like neither will defeat the other. In the
middle of their battle...
GRINDELWALD (cont'd)
You can't win, Albus. You know as
well as I do that my wand is more
powerful than any other in
existence!
DUMBLEDORE
And you know as well as I do that
a wand is only as powerful as the
wizard who wields it!
Finally, after distracting GRINDELWALD with another
spell, DUMBLEDORE manages to knock his enemy's wand out
of his hand with a Disarming spell, and expertly catches
it with his free hand.
DUMBLEDORE (cont'd)
It's over, Gellert.
GRINDELWALD
It will never be over, Albus.
Another Dark Wizard will rise, and
he will succeed where I have
failed.
DUMBLEDORE
Then let us hope I'll be around to
stop him.
A close-up of DUMBLEDORE's face fades into black-and
white. The camera slowly pulls away, and his face is
framed on a page in a newspaper. Above it is a headline:
"ALBUS DUMBLEDORE REMEMBERED". The camera continues to
pull away to reveal...
INT. HARRY'S BEDROOM, DURSLEYS' HOUSE - NIGHT
The newspaper lies open on a bed, at which HARRY POTTER
is packing his rucksack. Hoisting the bag up, he is about
to leave the room when his gaze falls upon the picture of
Dumbledore in the newspaper.
HARRY
You were the only wizard Voldemort
ever feared. How can I do this
without you?
